Spain – Feb 18
Thursday 1st March
Today we went to Cartagena on the Mediterranean coast. It was a Roman city and has a very beautifully restored Roman theatre. We explored this and then enjoyed some free time for shopping and lunch! Then it was off to La Manga and a lovely walk along the beach. Tonight the teachers are going out to see some Flamenco. Ole!!
Wednesday 28th February
We visited the Ricote valley, a beautiful setting for a huge fruit growing industry that is so important in Murcia. We then went on a long walk along the Segura river to meet our transport for the remainder of the afternoon – 6 wonderful rescue donkeys! They carried us steadily along the riverbank and delivered us to a delicious and very filling lunch of tapas and paella! A wonderful day!
Tuesday 27th February
Raining today! But we hear it’s snowing in London! We had a lovely time touring the city of Murcia on foot, visiting some beautiful buildings. We are part of a group of 8 schools from different European countries, with 17 teachers and 30 students! It’s a really friendly group and the Spanish team are looking after us very well. Here’s a selection of photos from today.
Monday 26th February
Today the real project work began. We all met at the school in Las Torres des Cotillas, 15 km from Murcia.
We enjoyed a great welcome show in the sunny playground, with music and Flamenco dancing. We toured the classrooms and showed the film we had made about Hackney. It was received very well by the partner schools. Later we had a walking tour of the town, including a game of outdoor bowling. Then the kids were off ice skating with their host families. Great fun!
Saturday 24th February
We got the train to Luton and arrived at the airport for our 15.30 flight. Very cold in London but 3 hours later we were in Murcia, southern Spain, where it was a very pleasant 15 degrees. We were met by the children’s host families, very excited to meet their young English guests! Our children were amazing, and settled in to their temporary Spanish homes brilliantly!
Sunday 25th February
A beautiful sunny day , perfect for wandering around the old city in Murcia for the teachers. The children spent the day with their hosts. Michelle went to the beach, Birraa played football and Kelvina and Natalie enjoyed time with their new friends.
