Days 7 & 8

Friday 19th April
Today’s excursion was possibly the best of all. We went to Matera, an ancient city in Basilicata that was until recently a very poor semi-ruin. However, it has always had a fascination for film makers and recent Mel Gibson made his film ‘The Passion’ there, because the place looks like Jerusalem may have looked in Biblical times. It is a unique place and we were all, kids included, amazed by it. The Germans left for home after another really nice lunch in a little courtyard, and we are now preparing for the final goodbye concert to be held in the music school. Tomorrow, it’s back to Rome and our flights home at 7pm. A little more shopping and sightseeing before then!
